ABOUT BRAD
Brad Capener brings nearly 35 years of leadership experience spanning the nonprofit sector and public education. His career has included serving as a nonprofit director, school superintendent, teacher, migrant summer school principal, founding career school principal and developer, district administrator, state education specialist, and regional education leader. He has worked at every level of complex, mission-driven organizations—from direct service and program development to organizational leadership and statewide initiatives—giving him a unique perspective on the challenges and opportunities facing schools and nonprofits today. Brad understands what it means to lead organizations through change, strengthen teams, build sustainable systems, and keep people and purpose at the center of the work.
At the Oregon Department of Education, Brad served as one of two Education Specialists responsible for statewide oversight of English Learner programs. In that role, he led teams providing technical assistance and compliance oversight to districts across Oregon. This experience gave him a deep understanding of educational systems and policy implementation.
Today, Brad serves as an Executive Advisor, Leadership Strategist, and Executive Coach, supporting superintendents, governing boards, and nonprofit leaders. His approach combines practical leadership experience with strategic thinking, helping leaders navigate complexity and achieve meaningful results.
His work has focused on helping leaders strengthen systems, improve outcomes, and expand opportunities for students, particularly those historically underserved by traditional educational structures. During his tenure as superintendent, he guided organizational improvement efforts, built community partnerships, and expanded student opportunities.
My Philosophy
I don't believe leadership is about having all the answers. I believe leadership is about asking better questions, seeing challenges from new perspectives, building trust, and making thoughtful decisions that move people and organizations forward. My role isn't to tell you what to do. My role is to help you think more clearly, lead more confidently, and build the kind of organization where people feel valued, supported, and inspired to do their best work. Because when leaders grow, organizations become stronger—and the people they serve benefit most.
